Paper #1- The Model of Love
Role Model of Love
Although much time has passed away I still have memories of my dear
grandmother named Concei??o Gime but I call her affectionately'' m?e'' that
means mother in Portuguese. She have beautiful brown eyes with short hair,
black skin color and little shorty. I consider her as my second mother despite the
fact that she has the same name with my mother she always took care of me
since I my childhood. She is definitely an example of a hardworking and
courageous woman. She used to get up early every day in the morning to go
work to give a better life for their children but she had to walk long distances to
get on time to her Workplace because the public transport facilities were very
difficult In 1970 the national liberation war in her hometown caused a lot of the
damage and after the war the country hadn?t enough resources such as
transportation, food, and health care.. Now with over 60 years old, retired, she
cannot do the activities she did before because of the strong pain she has felt in
the left leg. This reality was a nightmare for the whole family because she is a
type of person who likes to move from one side to another, visit the home of
their children, cooking for family and solving certain family issues. She is very
protective and conservative family values. In our Angolan culture the elders
have a very large influence within the family. For example when an event occurs
such as a wedding is the parents who decide where and how it should be. The
pain in her leg got worse and my family decided to send her to another country
that has a more developed medicine. Unfortunately the medical care in my
hometown Angola is very deprived and we did not wanted to take the risk of
something goes wrong with her treatment. I have seen many cases of this type
is often happening in Africa specifically in Angola. The lack of special care for
the elderly in hospitals have greatly increased and many families prefer to send
their elderly out of the country for better care. At this moment this is the only
way to keep our elders with long lifetime.
