As mentioned in this module, the textbook suggests that although relational algebra is at the heart of all the relational database systems we use today, nobody actually sits down and “does relational algebra,” working out their database design issues with it. Do you think this is really true? Why? And if it is true… why should we be studying relational algebra at all? What purpose do we achieve with it?
Use examples to illustrate your argument, either “for” the study of this “never gets used” algebra, or “against” it, using concepts from QBE and/or relational algebra to make your argument.
